Clinic demonstration site for EMR

Dec 3rd, 2009

HDB is pleased to announce that eMed Consulting Group has chosen The Community Care Clinic as its initial site to demonstrate the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems in small practices. The Clinic is fortunate to have Dave Vrona and Andy Nieto to manage the project. eMed joins Baptist Hospital Northeast, Metro United Way and The Oldham County Health Department as Clinic healthcare partners.

The eMed project includes obtaining donated equipment, installation of hardware and software to integrate Clinic procedures and contacts, secure data storage per HIPAA requirements as well as training of all staff in the use of the system. eMed’s implementation of our EMR system puts the Clinic on the leading edge of future healthcare technology.

Starting in 2011, private practice physicians will receive incentives to implement EMR in their practices. While there are always two sides to every initiative, EMR is touted as the most efficient way to increase physician efficiency and reduce costs. Criticism includes potential loss of patient privacy and less record individuality. Nonetheless, increased and secure use of technology in medical practices is quickly becoming the norm instead of the exception.

The Clinic system will capture quantifiable data to promote evidence-based decisions regarding operations, funding and planning. In addition, EMR data will enable improved or increased patient services.

Watch for progress reports as eMed’s project unfolds.
