FAQs
Clinic
1. Is the Clinic free?
There is a $5.00 office visit fee due before seeing the doctor. This fee helps defray administrative costs.
2. Is there a long wait for appointments?
Patients usually have to wait about 3 months from the time they make an appointment. This is because our doctors are volunteers and they are not here every day. We have only five clinics per month, but our goal is to raise enough
funds to hire a part-time nurse practitioner so patients can be seen daily. These hours will be in addition to our volunteer clinic hours.
3. Who is eligible to make an appointment?
Anyone who does not have health insurance regardless of where they live or whether they work or not.
4. What do I need to do to be seen at the Clinic?
Call the Clinic in person. We prefer talking to the person who needs the appointment because then we can ask specific questions, provide guidance and direct them to more appropriate services if necessary.
5. Can I see a doctor on the day I call?
No, we do not have physicians here at the Clinic all the time. They are volunteers who see Clinic patients after their regular office hours. We hope to be able to see patients everyday in the future.
6. Can I get shots or lab work done there?
No, we do not give shots of any kind. Clinic patients who need lab work or imaging done go to Baptist Hospital Northeast.
7. Do I pay for my labs or imaging?
Clinic patients can go through the Baptist Hospital Northeast Charity Care program. Patients fill out appropriate forms, have their financial situation analyzed and may qualify for assistance through financial aid programs at the hospital.
8. Are there other free clinics in our area if I can’t wait three months for an appointment?
Yes, there are several other clinics in our area. Mercy Medical Clinic is in Shelbyville (502-647-4668), Park Duvall (502-774-4401) and Portland Clinic (502-774-8631) are in Louisville. They may have shorter wait times.
