OLDHAM'S PUBLIC BUS

Jun 16th, 2011

Wondering where we’ve been? Well, we’re baacckk…sadly, we closed the clinic, BUT…now we are really working hard to reinvent our fixed route bus service. Read on to find out all about it…

Oldham’s Public Bus: New Name, Same Great Service

Something new is on the streets of LaGrange, Buckner and maybe, Crestwood. Actually, it’s not a new thing, it is Oldham County’s five-year-old fixed route bus service with a new name and new look. LOCAL Transit is now Oldham’s Public Bus. “OPIE” for short! Say “OPIE” like the name Mayberry Sheriff Andy Taylor’s young son.

OPIE’s routes are the same as always. The Red Route has 19 stops throughout LaGrange and the Green Route’s 15 stops connect LaGrange and Buckner. Oldham’s Public Bus is fixed route passenger bus service. That means anyone can ride OPB. And, each bus is wheelchair accessible. The cost to ride is also the same: $1.00 for adults and .50 for seniors (age 60 and above).

HDB Service Group, Inc., the Oldham County-based nonprofit that operates Oldham’s Public Bus, plans special fun days on board OPIE. An example is to celebrate National Pizza Day with bite-sized pizza samples for each passenger using OPIE that day. Part of OPIE’s future is Bus Hosts, volunteers who ride the bus to help passengers and promote public awareness for the benefits of using the bus. Other plans include experimental routes like a Saturday route called “Farmer’s Market Special.”

OPIE aims to become a viable solution for those who want to limit use of their private vehicles yet still go to work or get around to complete everyday tasks. Watch for Oldham’s Public Bus so you don’t have to fuss, just take the bus!
