Let the Good Times Roll!

May 24th, 2010

We’re planning something different for our 2010 fundraiser. HDB will host Les Bon Temps Bash, a fundraising party at Louisville’s historic Coach Lamp Restaurant on Vine Street, November 18 from 5:30 – 9 p.m. The fundraiser’s theme comes from the famous Cajun saying: “Laissez les bon temps roulez,” which means “Let the good times roll!”

The Coach Lamp’s Executive Chef, Richard Lowe, came to Louisville from New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. His culinary experience includes New Orleans’ finest restaurants such as Pat O'Briens, Agave, Martinique, and Tchefuncta Country Club. Chef Lowe was featured by food critic Robin Garr in the December 2009 issue of The Leo.

Les Bon Temps Bash promises authentic Big Easy-style food and fun featuring heavy appetizers, fruits, cheeses, desserts and a full service bar. Tickets are $75.00 which includes two drinks of choice. There will be opportunities to bid on silent auction items as well. Proceeds from The Bash and auction are used to support The Community Care Clinic, HDB’s medical clinic for the uninsured.

“We’re looking forward to having some very special guests you may have recently seen on reality TV. Stay tuned for details! We hope that everyone will take this opportunity to support our Community Care Clinic, share a fun meal with others and kick off the holiday season at the same time,” said HDB board member Gayle Henson.

Over 10,000 uninsured people in need of medical care reside in Oldham, Henry, Trimble and Carroll counties. Currently, volunteer physicians and nurses see patients at least once per week, but the need increases as larger numbers of people lose insurance coverage. Metro United Way provides only partial funding for the Clinic so HDB’s challenge is to develop a variety of sustainable funding streams.

“Our goal is to raise enough money to have a nurse practitioner on-site least part-time each day so the Community Care Clinic can be open every day for patient care. Our committed volunteer healthcare professionals have done a marvelous job seeing patients, but demands for Community Care Clinic appointments far exceed the hours we could ask a volunteer to donate,” said Cynthia Stafford, HDB’s Director. “We are making clinic appointments as far as eight weeks out so adding daily clinics is a challenge we welcome. It is a perfect fit for our mission to improve access to healthcare.”
